Meet the Saline Area Soccer Association SWARM STING Travel Coaches

Andy Brookfield -- Director of Coaching and Player Development -- 97 Swarm Black, 95 Swarm Black, 96 Sting Black, and 00 Sting Black teams. Andy played at youth affiliates of Sheffield United F.C. and Barnsley F.C, Nottingham Trent University, and semi-professional in England. His coaching experience includes: English F.A. Level 2 certificate, MSYSA National D Coaching License, Barnsley F.C. Academy in England, SASA club trainer for five years.

steve_petty Steve Petty -- 03 Sting Black team.  Steve played competitively throughout college at the University of Manchester, England from 2000 to 2004.  He was the assistant coach with the Bedford Town Colts U11 and U12 teams in 2004-2006.  Steve holds a FA Level 1 Coach License and an MSYSA National D License.  Steve was born and raised in Sunderland, England.

ashley_uptonaAshley Upton -- 03 Swarm Black, 99 Swarm Gold teams.  Ashley has played for the Dayton Soccer Academy, Eastern Michigan and the University of Michigan club team as well as on an Olympic Development team.  She has coached for SASA, Wide World Sports Center and the Michigan Tigers Futbol Club.  She holds an MSYSA National D Coaching License.

 

 

mackenzie_gilmoreMackenzie Gilmore -- 02 Swarm Black team.  Mackenzie has been playing soccer since the age of four. She participated in the SASA Travel Program for nine years playing field and goal keeper.  She played four years for the Saline High School Varsity team.  In college, she was goal keeper for OSU and UNCA's Varsity soccer teams. She was part of the Olympic Development Program team in high school.  Mackenzie's coaching experience includes coaching for SASA for two years and the Michigan Tigers for one year.  She is the Goal Keeper Coach for SASA.  "I absolutely love coaching and enjoy seeing the players' skills evolve and have fun with good teamwork and sportsmanship. Player development both on and off the field is a major aspect of my coaching philosophy."

si_dalySimon Daly -- 04 Sting Black, 01 Sting Gold, 97 Sting Black, 01 Swarm Black teams. Simon Daly's coaching experience includes being the Youth Development Officer for Blackpool FC Academy U8, U7; Head coach for Lancaster City Youth (currently coaches for them in the winters); CCT for Challenger Sports; Appleton Soccer Club, SASA, Mount Moreb Soccer Club, Kimberly  Area Soccer Club developmental age, Challenger Summer Camps.

 

lee_hudsonLee Hudson -- 02 Sting Black, 01 Sting Black, 99 Swarm Black teams. Lee has played for the Cheletenham Town Youth and Royal Air Force Mens teams.  Lee's coaching experience includes: Youth coach for Southampton FC, head coach for Southampton University Ladies team, Southampton FC Community Coach, SASA, Royal Air Force Mens Team.  Lee holds a UEFA 'C' Coaching License and is certified in Emergency First Aid.

 

ryan_williamsRyan Williams -- 02 Sting Gold and 00 Swarm White team.  Ryan played travel soccer for five years with the Ann Arbor Arsenal and Michigan Rush. He played for the Saline High School Varsity team for three years and was a captain his senior year. He is currently the assistant coach for the Saline High School Varsity Team and a head coach for SASA.  "I love the game and love being able to teach it to others. As a coach, I strongly emphasize having fun, working hard, good teamwork, and the importance of sportsmanship."

 

 

ray_williamsaRay Williams -- 00 Swarm Gold team. Ray has been a SASA coach since 2000, coaching many different levels:  black, gold and white travel and recreational teams. He has coaching experience with Ann Arbor United as well. Ray holds a MSYSA D Coaching License.  Ray says, "I totally enjoy working with the kids."

Gareth Rogers -- 00 Swarm Black team. Gareth holds a MSYSA D Coaching License and has been coaching within the SASA organization for eight years. His player experience goes back over 30 years and includes three years at the University of Nottingham in Great Brittain as well as several seasons of top level amateur soccer in the UK and US.

 

 

 

nath_akellaaNath Akella -- 00 Sting Gold team. Nath has many years of travel, recreational and indoor coaching experience. He played as a child in Rhode Island on a travel team. Nath holds a MSYSA E Coaching License. Nath describes his coaching style as "Firm but fun."

Doug Schantz -- 99 Sting Gold team. Doug has many years of experience coaching recreational and travel soccer for both boys and girls teams.  Doug holds a USYSA E Coaching License.  Doug says, "A good coach needs knowledge of the sport, patience, the ability to teach and a significant sense of humor."

 

 

brenda_genereauxaBrenda Genereaux -- 98 Swarm Black team. Brenda has coached this team for the past five years. She holds a USYSA D Coaching License. Brenda says, "Encouragement is positive...children learn much better from compliments rather than complaints."

Steve Mentzer -- 98 Sting Black team. Steve has fifteen years of coaching experience and enjoys working with players who love the game and wish to improve their skills and playing ability. Steve holds an E Coaching License and is pursuing his D license. The mark of a great team is one in which each player is able to contribute something of value game in and game out.

 

 

Michael Szafranski -- 02 Swarm Gold team. Michael has many years of coaching experience in both travel and the recreational SASA leagues.  He holds a MSYSA E Coaching License.  Michael describes his coaching philosophy as "Put players needs first."

 

Bill Santos -- 99 Sting Black and 95 Extreme teams.

gary_jablonskiaGary Jablonski -- 94 Swarm Black team. Gary has coached this team for the last six years. He has previous travel and recreational coaching as well. He holds a MSYSA E Coaching License. Gary says, "A good coach creates a positive environment that teaches not only the game of soccer, but also the extended life lessons (work ethic, team work, sportsmanship) that will live with SASA girls long past their soccer careers."
