The Board of Directors of Saline Area Soccer Association established the Thiess Appreciation Award to recognize volunteers who have made a special contribution to the betterment of our club and youth soccer within our community.

Background:

For almost 25 years, Bill Thiess worked tirelessly for the good of youth soccer in Saline and the state of Michigan.  While most widely known as a premiere coach, he was also active as a referee, and behind the scenes serving as officer and board member.  Bill's generosity with his time, effort, leadership and knowledge has been instrumental in the growth and popularity of soccer in and around our community.  Saline Area Soccer Association is indebted to Bill for his special contributions over many years.

Saline Area Soccer Association depends on the generous contribution of many volunteers who serve the club in important roles, such as coach, referee, team parent, team manager, and board member.  Over the years, the cumulative effort of these members has led the club from its grass roots beginnings to being one of the best community-based clubs in Michigan.  Our club would like to recognize those who, through their efforts and dedication, have made a special contribution.

The Thiess Appreciation Award:

For many years, Bill Thiess set the standard for volunteerism and service around the soccer fields of Saline.  Therefore, Saline Area Soccer Association has established the Thiess Appreciation Award. Given each spring, this honor will recognize volunteers who, through their generous dedication and service, have made a special contribution to youth soccer within our community.  Named for Bill Thiess, the most dedicated of volunteers, this award recognizes the recipients for their tremendous dedication and service to the betterment of our sport and our club.
